Hi Welcome To Country Roots And More New Dances

The new dance machine rolls on, I will list the new dances that the improver's have learnt as well as a dance for the more advanced members. One of the improver's new dances was White Rose ( yes I know it's easy for you and me) but not if you have never seen the dance before. This is still a dance I love to do along with Toes. As I have said many time before just because it's old doesn't mean it's past the sell by date.
Another dance they have done recently is Come Dance With Me a nice easy dance it should fit a lot of dances.
The advanced Class was taught Slip Away I think it's fair to say some people have struggled with, but it is a nice dance and when you are comfortable with the step you will enjoy the dance. Well that enough chat here are the dances for both classes.

A Week Of Nice Dances New And Old

A Week Of Nice  Dances New And Old

Both the Improver's and Intermediates classes have learnt new dances and some old one's too. I have come to realise just because a dance is 20 odd years old it can still be a very good dance. Dances Like Country 2 Step, a nice simple dance it has more grey whisks than I have. but people get up and do it.
Another old dance we did on Monday night was Back To Front, I have done this dance before! but not very often. but as I and some of the other member are got on a marathon line dance session soon I was told this will be played at the venue. I was list all the dances that were done last night as I could be doing this blog all day and nigh ,so these are just a few.

Back From My Holiday Break

Back From My Holiday Break

I just come back from a week in the sun and I'm amazed it took me sometime to get my head into dancing mode, the dances I knew well before my holiday I struggle with for a while. But I believe that our brain is a muscle and it stores pattens subconsciously, so when I was halfway through a dances I knew the steps again, and this was repeated all night long. But this picks up on and interesting question? When I'm home and have to miss a dances class the next time I go I just carry on from where I left off from before. But when coming home from a holiday I really struggle, I thinks it's because when we go on holiday totally switch off from everything we would normally be doing. So when we come home and try to pick up the treads of normal life we need to find the information that has been packed away for the time it's not needed. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Getting Our Members Ready

Margaret is always telling us that we should “Listen to the music”.... that   is to identify the beat and to understand why and where Restarts and Tags apply, also that dances can be “fitted” to other tracks and how a change of music can revamp old dances, also that the ability of doing this is an advantage when at social events. So with this in mind the improver’s class did some of the old favourite dances to alternative music, i.e.
Just for Grins we did to Alan Gregory’s Johnny Be Good.  Little Bluff which was choreographed to Tracy Byrd’s   “You Lied To Me”, was danced to “Don’t Tell Me What to Do” By Pam Tills and “Ribbon of Highway” to B R 49’s Devil’s Shadow.
This class also learned a new dance “Rio De Amor” (River Of Love) This is a new and easier dance to a John Arthur Martinez song River or Love....
Later the Intermediate class was ‘treated’ the original  dance  El Rio Amor choreographed  to the same track by  Peter Metelnick & Alison Biggs..and that was a whole new ball game!

From 6PM to 7.30MP

Big Scare Just Now

Big Scare Just Now

Hello as the Editor of this blog I login all the time, to up load the dances and to write editorial. So you can imagine my shock and horror when I logged on  and saw all the pages that has every been uploaded and the whole site was gone. For a moment I couldn't think what had gone wrong, then I realized I hadn't sign into the Country Roots Account. Phew panic over but it has brought something to talk about. If you lost all of your Digital on line presence, how much would you loose? If country Roots was lost, it would be three years of reference to dances lost that bad, but in the system of things I could  rewrite the pages. Not that I would like to do that.
But some people store they whole life on-line,documents, pictures, everything that tells us what their are, could be lost in the clouds, or more likely a giant sever in another country. That wouldn't care if your digital life was wiped out. So, as much as it is a pain in the rear end, you should have paper or hard copy's  of all the thing you couldn't imagine loosing and never getting back.

The Improver's Class

That the moment the improver's are doing a lovely little dance call Open The  Box  There isn't anyone with a walk-through yet I might have a work with Margaret Gough and see if the class can make a video of this dance.

Other dances were It's High Time, Is It Me, see bellow for dances, another nice dance is I. C. ME  I love the words to the song.( just make sure you hear the restarts.)

New Beginners Class

New Beginners Class
Margaret Gough the owner and Line Dance instructor has started a beginners class at the club on a Monday night from 6.00 PM till 7.30 PM and this week we have been busy making the basic walk-through video for the beginner dances ( see all the dances below) I believe it will really help. Last Monday I was reminded of how line dancing looks so easy to people that  haven't yet tried it. But they have a shock  when they come and try it for the first time, I can remember my learning curve, I didn't know if I was coming or going. But then you start remembering the dances, and you get through the dance without going wrong  is a good feeling.
All Line Dancing Clubs needs new people to join, without younger members in our clubs the clubs can't survive, I enjoy helping new members because as I said a few lines back I still remember what I felt like walking into Margaret's club not knowing anybody, but the members where helpful, I was put in the middle of a line so which ever way I turn I could follow somebody. To anybody that has just started Line Dancing or is thinking about starting, just stick with it you will have a steep learning curve but in a short while it gets better. As  Margaret  says “It is a little like learning to drive a car, at first it seems so difficult, but the more you practice the sooner it all comes together..and the easier it becomes” and yes we have all been there...  Now here are the beginner dances

Other Dances We Did This Week

We did a dance called Holding Back The Ocean by Peter  Metelnick and Alison Biggs  this came out 2006. This dance passed me by, and it's not an easy dance to do but I love the music and that always helps. Have a look at the dance and here is a link to get [Dance Sheet ] the dance will bellow

Take Me Away  I like this dance and the song  see Dance Sheet here the is still a problem with these choreographers and their lack of imagination when naming dances as the picture shows

I rest my case . On Monday night the whole class work really hard remembering old dances and learning new ones, here are some of the other dances we did This is me No Man's Land Remember When High Cotton and many more Thank you for read our Blog this week.

When Are Old Dances New Dances

When Are Old Dances New Dances
The thought came to me last night when we were doing dances from 18 to 20 years old, and while the veterans of the line dancing club remembered them after a while, spare a thought for the other people that have been dancing for about 5 years. I have done some of the older dances, but the ones we did last night I have never heard of, I and other members hadn't even heard the music before so to us they were all new dances. You can a have good dance live on for years, as new people come into line dancing they start with the older beginners dances, like Ribbon of highway, Cowgirl Twist, cowboy charleston may be some newer beginner dances, but the point is we all have to learn the dances and just because the dance is 18 years old is doesn't mean there not any good, a dance I hadn't heard of until last year was T Bone Shuffle I'm not when it came out but I heard this music and people started to dance to the music, I asked someone about the dance and I told told it's be out for ages but to me I had to learn that dance on that night as something completely new and why if you go to a line dance club there is always something you can learn.

Last Nights Dances

Other Dance Were

We may have done more dances but I can't remember them?

Revision Night Mon 28.10.20.13

Revision Night

Hello to all our members, well  last night was revision night we did some very old dances and the very latest dance as well. There was some reminiscing about some of the older dances, I suppose it's the same for any music from the past you remember where you were when you heard a certain song, so it's the same for a line dancing. You might have been away with friends to an event where you first did that dance this is what gives you great memories.

It always surprises me on review night how many dances you know even if you think you have forgotten them some of the dance comes back to you normally half way through the dance. I have listed the dances we did last night I can't promise to get links to them all but I will try.
