Welcome to another Country Roots Blog

Welcome to another Country Roots Blog

Hello and welcome to another post on our Line Dance Blog, we have a lot to get through. First I would like you all to meet the Beginners Class and they are learning  really well. so please see the picture below this picture was taken a few weeks ago we have 5 more beginners now than when the photo was taken.

I was having a discussion a little while ago and it was about the future of line dancing the other person thought it was dead and there wasn't anyone intrested in line dancing, but if we look at the success of Margaret's class this show that is not true. people live to dance some are better than others but dancing is apart of all of us, it's one way  we express  ourselves. In our beginners class we have all ages from teenagers to senior citizen. which is great, as I have said before any club no matter what they do inside the club, Blows, to Basket work needs new blood or at sometime the club will go under, which after years and year of building the club up would be a great same.

This Week In Our Club

This week we learned two new dances and had a revival night just to  going over some of the dances we have done recently such as Salt & Lime | Blue Berry Chill | that one we haven't done for some time and you do have to sort your feet out. Another recent dance is No Honk Tonk, is quick but I like it now, along with, Mile Shy of Paradise, and Together ForeverThe Boat To Liverpool plus many many more I will put Links to all these dance.

How Do You Learn a Dance

How Do You Learn a Dance

How do you learn a dance it is interesting how different people learn a  new dance and how some people are just naturally good at teaching other people to do a dance, I do look at the dance script but I will follow the walk-through on YouTube. But even they are the dances that seem hard to do even with walk-though's on YouTube. But when you go to class and Margaret  ( our Instructor ) does her walks-though, to the same dance that you have been struggling with and Margaret's way is  much easier than the one on YouTube that is a great skill to have. At a personal level I have taught friends dances, and I have to say  it's not easy, so the likes of Margaret and Helen and all the other Instructors I for one take my hat off to you all.

New Dances This Week

The first dance The Boat To Liverpool this is the one that so many of us have had the problem with the heel cross, heel hook, heel flick , scuff, hitch cross, I like this dance and once we can do it  I think it will be fine.

Dance Script

The other dance this called Mona Lisa I like this dance but again the are some moves that you need to work at because to me I find it trick in the step kickball step kickball then heel and heel, I can do it but I have to work at it.

Dance Script

When you go to get the Dance Script be sure to get the right one I have marked the correct one see picture below.

Our Last Night Before Christmas Plus the quizz

This Was Our Last Night Before Christmas

We had our last night of dancing until after the holidays. The pictures show what a good time we had. We had a lucky dip approach to the dances where  every dance had a number and people picked a number out of a hat, and the dances ranged for new dances to 20 years ago.

These pictures include the members from Monday night, and the members from the Thursday morning class.

I was clearing out some of my old dance sheets

I recently moved so as you do you have a sort out, and I found a folder in it were dance sheets and I got to wondering how many dances  wound you remember? I looked at this and I couldn't remember quiet a few. So see how you do remember if you can't remember the dance look it up?

These links are connected to either the YouTube Dance|  Where I can't get the dance because it was very  popular dance I have a link to the YouTube music when I can't get the music I linked it to Copperknob for the dance sheet. See how many dance you can remember before you link the link

When Is Line Dancing Not Line Dancing?

When Is Line Dancing Not Line Dancing?

The blog head line does raise a good question? What is true Line Dancing, and does pop music really lend it's self to line Dancing. Well that will always be a matter for the individual, personally I don't think in general let's say top 40 chart music doesn't, if you listen to the music and watch the videos a lot of the dances are struggling to make the dance steps firstly fit, secondly flow, I say this because it is so important for a dance to flow through to the end of the dance. I don't have and dis-like for pop music I like all genre's and there are a few good pop songs that fit well to line dancing Olly Mur, is a good example of a pop song as opposed to a whole genre of music.

When it comes to line dancing it was made for the songs, and weather you like that individual song it would fit a dance, and flow through the whole song. This can be back up because when you go to a live band event you can dance many of the well know dances and do them to many different country songs, and in my own experience you can't easily do this with pop songs because mainly the dance is design to fit that one song, and even then they are having to put up to three or four restarts in a dance to fit that one song. We did a dance called The Boys Of Summer,(see link below) and in a way it proves my point, you are dancing the dance in the second half of the dance without any tempo to listen to, musical phrasing when away and you were left to count the eight beats sections that isn't line dancing. You can write you views in the comments or go to FaceBook country roots line dance club.

Boys Of Summer Dance Sheet

The Boys of Summer is a dance where the Phasing goes out and you find yourself having to count the beats for about a minute because you will go out in your timing. It might Grow on you as a dance only time will tell.

Sliver Lining
Silver Lining Dance  Sheet
The dance Silver Lining in a nice dance with just one tricky part which you will need to work at but will come with practice, the rest of the dance is fine and the music is nice.

The March Of The New Dances Goes On

The March Of The New Dances Goes On

Well Monday night brought some new dances they were OK Margaret Gough was going to teach these a few weeks ago but other dances got in the way, one is a nice little dance the other is nice, love the song  the timing is a bit tricky, as a lot of new dances are.

Shoebox
Dance Sheet

The photo from all the recent events and away trips will be put up in the gallery I will try to do it after this post, also I will update the new dances page with all the recent dance we has practiced lately, which isn't as easy as it sounds because of the speed new dances are being released. we learn them and newer dances come out, and so when you run a web-blog you can get swapped.

I have made a short video on how to copy and paste any picture on a facebook page

Monday Night Lessons

Monday Night Lessons

Welcome to Country Roots Blog, where do I start. Well some night you get an easy nights when you know most of the dances, nice no stress. And then there are the nights where there are new dances.
And some that aren't  too bad, and some were absolutely horrible.the dances that were OK are.
Dream Lover  fairly straight forward should soon get the hang of that. and This Is Me   again no real surprises nice dance.

No Man's Land is a  lovely  dance  hard to master, the timing is tricky there are some odd turns, along with restarts and tags, having say all that when we get to grips with the dance and we will, because the class has had many tricky through the years and this is just another one.

Well I personally do no what to make of the dance Driven see links below it's quick quirky but I like it, 84 counts seems a lot  but some of the beats are doubled up so you use up a lot of the count quickly. again the bridges are odd but you will get around that I personally like Robbie's dances.

Friday Night Out

Friday Night Out

Margaret Gough held a night of line dancing at the Constitutional Club in  Prestatyn  North Wales,
it was good to get the members together outside of the normal room  class setting. When ever I go to the events and I'm facing a different way to start the dance it confusing because we get uses to starting from the same wall. Here are some pictures of  members that the event and  some of the dances we did. Other dances were the older like this and that, Fool the Devil, Memories Are Made of This. and many more.
