Revision Night Mon 28.10.20.13

Revision Night

Hello to all our members, well  last night was revision night we did some very old dances and the very latest dance as well. There was some reminiscing about some of the older dances, I suppose it's the same for any music from the past you remember where you were when you heard a certain song, so it's the same for a line dancing. You might have been away with friends to an event where you first did that dance this is what gives you great memories.

It always surprises me on review night how many dances you know even if you think you have forgotten them some of the dance comes back to you normally half way through the dance. I have listed the dances we did last night I can't promise to get links to them all but I will try.

|Nothing But Tail Lights Disappearing Tail LightsInspiration | Ribbon of high way | This is me
Same Thing Happened  To Me | Cheap talk | Games People Play | Blue bayou | Silver Lining |
Shoe box | That's where I'll be | Suds in a bucket | April fool| Oklahoma wind | Sunny in Seattle California Blue |
Red molly | Boys Of Summer |
For dance sheets please see our Labels and search for the dance you are looking for.

When Is Line Dancing Not Line Dancing?

When Is Line Dancing Not Line Dancing?

The blog head line does raise a good question? What is true Line Dancing, and does pop music really lend it's self to line Dancing. Well that will always be a matter for the individual, personally I don't think in general let's say top 40 chart music doesn't, if you listen to the music and watch the videos a lot of the dances are struggling to make the dance steps firstly fit, secondly flow, I say this because it is so important for a dance to flow through to the end of the dance. I don't have and dis-like for pop music I like all genre's and there are a few good pop songs that fit well to line dancing Olly Mur, is a good example of a pop song as opposed to a whole genre of music.

When it comes to line dancing it was made for the songs, and weather you like that individual song it would fit a dance, and flow through the whole song. This can be back up because when you go to a live band event you can dance many of the well know dances and do them to many different country songs, and in my own experience you can't easily do this with pop songs because mainly the dance is design to fit that one song, and even then they are having to put up to three or four restarts in a dance to fit that one song. We did a dance called The Boys Of Summer,(see link below) and in a way it proves my point, you are dancing the dance in the second half of the dance without any tempo to listen to, musical phrasing when away and you were left to count the eight beats sections that isn't line dancing. You can write you views in the comments or go to FaceBook country roots line dance club.

Boys Of Summer Dance Sheet

The Boys of Summer is a dance where the Phasing goes out and you find yourself having to count the beats for about a minute because you will go out in your timing. It might Grow on you as a dance only time will tell.

The dance Silver Lining in a nice dance with just one tricky part which you will need to work at but will come with practice, the rest of the dance is fine and the music is nice.

When Dances Grow On You

When Dances Grow On You

It is strange about dances some of them you like straight away, others you think I don't know. But after a while they grow on you like ivy up a wall. when you know the step and you get comfortable with the dance your view some how changes. We are doing some dances like that now, Driven by Robbie Fowler ( see link blow) I thought I personally would never do it properly but I love that dance now the more time I do it the more it grows on me.

We are also doing a dance called No Man's Land (see link below) I can do the dance in a fashion but it's hard, the timing and the turns are tricky, but when mastered will make you feel good. That's what  dancing in any format is all about making you feel happy, and if you struggle to learn a dance you fell great when you have do so.

Monday Night Lessons

Monday Night Lessons

Welcome to Country Roots Blog, where do I start. Well some night you get an easy nights when you know most of the dances, nice no stress. And then there are the nights where there are new dances.
And some that aren't  too bad, and some were absolutely horrible.the dances that were OK are.
Dream Lover  fairly straight forward should soon get the hang of that. and This Is Me   again no real surprises nice dance.

No Man's Land is a  lovely  dance  hard to master, the timing is tricky there are some odd turns, along with restarts and tags, having say all that when we get to grips with the dance and we will, because the class has had many tricky through the years and this is just another one.

Well I personally do no what to make of the dance Driven see links below it's quick quirky but I like it, 84 counts seems a lot  but some of the beats are doubled up so you use up a lot of the count quickly. again the bridges are odd but you will get around that I personally like Robbie's dances.

Welcome to the Country Roots Blog In 2022
